At first glance, the works center on natural scenery. But on closer inspection, woven between the brushstrokes, fragments of text are visible.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1035\" data-start=\"416\"\u003eThese passages are taken from \u003cem data-end=\"464\" data-start=\"446\"\u003eThe Great Gatsby\u003c\/em\u003e, often considered one of the most iconic works of American literature. I selected excerpts that focus on its two central female characters, highlighting how women in 1920s America were portrayed: shaped by circumstance, constrained by expectation, and frequently judged. In response, I have rewritten portions of these passages, replacing them with words of encouragement. This shift invites us to reconsider how we might speak about these women, and by extension, women in similar circumstances: within a world that does not define their worth by limitation or marriage.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1400\" data-start=\"1037\"\u003eThe pairing with landscapes is intentional. Our relationship with the natural world, much like our historical treatment of women, has been shaped by patriarchal values: rooted in control, ownership, and exploitation. As outdated views on women continue to be challenged and dismantled, I hope to see a parallel movement in how we value and protect our environment.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1625\" data-start=\"1402\"\u003eTo imagine a world that truly values women is also, I believe, to imagine one that fights to preserve the land itself.
